The Football League is full of some nice modern stadia like Brighton's Amex Stadium and Rotherham's New York Stadium, but it does have its fair share of 'bad' stadia too.

What makes a bad stadium is a lack of modern design, poor catering and an overall poor away day experience for visiting fans.

From dilapidated stadiums to poorly positioned pillars in the stands the Football League is full of forgettable stadiums and that desperately need renovation.

In some cases the stadium's area needs renovation too as if the area around the stadium is rough then fans are unlikely to visit.

Another major problem with some stadium is the poor catering with the food at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium voted the worst, until some major improvements were made recently.

Stadiums must be able to give away fans a good experience and if the catering is poor, the stand is in a bad place and the stadium is old they may not enjoy the match.

Here are the FIVE worst stadiums in the whole of the Football League, in the opinion of FLW writer Michael Hasan.......

The New Den

The New DenThe New Den

Millwall's New Den was built in 1993 and has always been an intimidating arena to visit. Built in one of London's roughest areas it already looks pretty run down despite it being fairly new.

It could do with some renovation and the stadium is also rarely filled.

Millwall best known for their hooligan problems in the late 90's it is still a dangerous place to visit for away fans.

It is also built near a waste recycling plant and the surrounding area is rough making it a pretty poor prospect for home, and way fans with some renovation needed.

Kenilworth Road

luton

Luton Town's stadium is notorious for it's bad atmosphere, poor catering and hostile atmosphere.

Luton is also regularly voted top of the polls when it comes to the worst towns to live in, in the whole of England.

The rough surrounding area is a major off put for visiting fans and even some home fans.

The stadium is old and cramped with some restricted viewing with the rows of seats very tight and not suitable for taller people.

Notorious for the riot that happened during their FA Cup game with Millwall the stadium needs renovation, now that Luton are climbing the Football League.

Priestfield Stadium

Priestfield Stadium

Gillingham is known as the chav town of the UK and the whole town needs renovation, rather than just the stadium.

The away stand is a temporary stand without a roof that has been there for 5 years and recently the stadium, was voted the worst in the UK for away day experiences.

Away fans were critical of the poor catering and terrible atmosphere.

The stadium needs renovation but is also hated by away fans as there team rarely take points from Priestfield.

Fratton Park

portsmouth

A surprise entry featuring Portsmouth's home won't be a surprise to away fans who are unhappy with the venue.

The atmosphere is fantastic and one of the best in the Football League, but speaking from personal experience the toilets for away fans are poor, the seats are bolted and there is no leg room for away fans.

It is a surprise Portsmouth were allowed to play in the Premier League in such an ancient stadium and it needs renovating.

Griffin Park

Griffin ParkGriffin Park

Brentford stadium is nice and cosy for home fans, but really is terrible for away fans.

Fans are advised to wear sturdy shoes due to the solid ground.

It is a very compact stand with the home fans very bunched together, and it is quite an ancient stadium now.

Brentford are looking to move to a new stadium with it being priority for owner Matthew Benham.

As someone who visited it last season there is little leg room and the facilities are average too.
