Aston Villa suffered their first defeat of the Dean Smith era last night, losing 2-1 at Carrow Road against a flying Norwich City side.

Smith picked up three points against Swansea City in his first game at the helm, but Villa’s weaknesses were highlighted at Carrow Road, with the men in claret and blue throwing away a lead.

James Chester had headed Villa into a first-half lead, but a second-half brace from Jordan Rhodes turned the game around.

The first of Rhodes’ goals came from a corner, with Orjan Nyland failing to clear what was in front of him and leaving his goal unguarded for the Norwich striker to fire a header in.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper could do little with Rhodes’ second, but his poor decision for the first goal highlighted the problems that Villa have in the goalkeeping department.

As expected following a defeat, there was plenty of reaction from Villa’s supporters, with Nyland sparking a lot of debate…
