Derby have announced on the club's official website that they have parted ways with experienced shot-stopper David Marshall.

The Rams are prepared to let players leave Pride Park this month, with the club in a financial mess and on a hunt for new owners. It means that Wayne Rooney may have to contend with an influx of players heading out the exit door and David Marshall is now one of those casualties.

The shot-stopper has now agreed a deal to join QPR, where he will likely play a similar role to the one he has done at Derby.

He hasn't managed a single appearance for the Rams yet this campaign and at least at QPR he might get on the field more. At Pride Park, there has been at least two other shot-stoppers above him in the pecking order and that has meant a lack of action.

Now, after a total of 33 career games for the club, he is now heading to Loftus Road and QPR for the remainder of the campaign.

Derby fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the news of the player's departure and it has been somewhat of a mixed bag. Some fans believe the goalkeeper was unlucky and that he could get gametime elsewhere, while many others are more concerned about getting rid of the deadwood to free up room for some fresh faces (namely, Amad Diallo).

Marshall then has had mixed fortunes at Pride Park and it looks like it could be onwards and upwards for the 36-year-old and his now former club as he heads to QPR.

The Verdict

David Marshall can probably still do a job at Championship level and can certainly be a good stand-in if called upon.

I doubt he will feature much for QPR but at least they now have the option to turn to a very experienced EFL keeper if they need it. As for Derby, they'll likely be glad to get someone off the wage bill and free up some room for somebody that Rooney wants at the club this month.

Marshall wasn't getting a game and there is no point to keep him sat on the bench, especially when he is taking up money that the Rams need. He wasn't going to get on the field either and it seems as though a lot of the Derby faithful have had enough of the Scotland man too.

Based on his previous work and experience though, there is no question that Marshall has been and can be a solid goalkeeper. Hopefully at QPR he can get on the field more and will have more chance to prove that he can still produce the goods.
