Tony Xia bought the club from Randy Lerner in May 2016, shortly after Villa’s relegation from the Premier League.

The club had had a dismal season or two, and were relegated after hardly putting up a fight under various managers at the end of the season.

The claret and blues were in desperate need of a change and Tony Xia’s management model was different to that of American businessman Lerner.

Xia’s first interview at the club was memorable: he told the fans that he hopes the revamp will turn the club into one of the world’s top three clubs.

Give him time, but it’s not happening yet.

In Villa’s first transfer window under Xia, they spent mass figures on talent and only a few of the signings have proved to be value for money.

Here, we look at the top three signings made by Tony Xia at Villa Park.

Agree, Villa fans? Let us know in the comments.

Mile Jedinak was a regular at Premier League club Crystal Palace, so acquiring his signature was a coup for Villa.

The Aussie is still a pivotal member of the squad, as a leader and also as a quality player.

John McGinn, in terms of value for money, is one of Xia’s best signings.

The exciting attacking midfielder joined the club for just £1m and has been one of Villa’s best players this season.

Jonathan Kodija was one of the mentioned players who were signed for a massive fee – his was £11m rising to £15m.

Kodija has been one of Villa’s better players in the last few years, and has a rate of about a goal every other game, which is good.
