Dr Tony Xia, the chairman of Championship club Aston Villa sent the club’s fans into meltdown earlier on today as he tweeted about ongoing discussions about the club’s final deal in this summer’s transfer market.

There were no names mentioned but in the replies to the tweet, two stood out.

Both Robert Snodgrass and Christian Benteke’s names came up a lot in the Villains’ replies to their chairman and with sets of fans labelling others as “dreaming” for thinking Benteke could return.

Recent reports from the Mail Online have hinted at Steve Bruce’s side possibly making a move for West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass after the Scot was deemed surplus to requirements in London.

If this is the deal that Xia is talking about then Snodgrass will link back up with Steve Bruce following their time together at Hull where they won promotion to the Premier League.

The Verdict

Sorry Villa fans but it isn’t going to be Christian Benteke.

He’s a first team player at a Premier League club and he won’t be making the trip back down to the Championship.

Surely, Tony Xia is talking about Robert Snodgrass.

Here at FLW, we think he would make a top signing for the club.

His passing play, set-piece ability and defensive work would make him a valuable asset for Steve Bruce’s side and a player whose loan move could be made permanent next season if he plays as well as he can do.
