Aston Villa chairman Dr Tony Xia used Twitter to show his happiness with Villa's recent form.

Steve Bruce's Villa continued their push for the automatic promotion spots with an impressive 4-1 win over local rivals Wolves.

It was a convincing win as Nuno Santo's men were pulled apart by a clinical Villa side determined to get revenge after a 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture.

This closes the gap between the two sides to seven points and ensured that Fulham didn't take third place from Villa. It also means that Wolves will be looking over their shoulder because Cardiff are only three points below them.

Both sides will have to move on quickly, though, because they have midweek fixtures due to having games in hand. Villa host Queens Park Rangers while Wolves host Reading in two must-win games for both sides.

Xia will be happy with the club's progress because they have a realistic chance of getting promoted just two seasons after getting relegated.

This is easily the best they have played since he has been in charge, so it's natural that he would like to show his enthusiasm publicly.

The Verdict

There is a lot of positivity around the club due to their surge up the table.

Villa are in a great position to take advantage of a blip in form from the two sides above them.

Steve Bruce deserves credit for how he has transformed the side.

He has received substantial backing in the transfer market, but the club were a mess when he came in and previous managers had shown how easily money can be wasted without a clear transfer strategy.
