Aston Villa are in the midst of an excellent run of form which has seen Steve Bruce’s side rise to fourth in the division, with the pre-season promotion favourites beginning to live up to their billing as serious contenders.

Despite a mini injury crisis that has seen the likes of John Terry and Jonathan Kodjia ruled out for long spells, the club has continued its surge towards the summit of the second tier table, with Albert Adomah in particular impressing in recent weeks.

Five goals in his past three matches has elevated the Ghanaian international to key-man status, with his conversion from winger to centre forward proving a masterstroke by manager Bruce.

New additions may be required in January to provide the squad with a well-needed boost, with chairman Tony Xia confirming in an interview with the club’s official site that new faces are on the agenda in the new year.

“The first priority is obviously promotion,” the Chinese businessman stressed.

“In terms of strengthening, everyone knows that for January we have the FFP (Financial Fair Play) to look at.

“But very possible we will bring in a couple of loans to strengthen our squad.

“We want to keep getting better and better and help us to end the season well.”

The Verdict

Villa fans will be delighted that their chairman has expressed an interest in January signings, and will welcome the new year boost.

There is no doubt that Villa need a striker, and one man who could be attracting the interest of Bruce is Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke, after the former Man United captain claimed the Scouse side should allow the player to spend time in the Football League this season.

A couple more signings are exactly what Villa needs, and with the chairman’s backing, fans will be confident their side can push on to achieve promotion.
