Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis has slammed the performance of referee Oliver Langford after his side's 2-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon, after speaking to the Gazette Live.

The North East club got off to the perfect start as Pawel Wszolek netted an early opener for the R's, before George Saville netted an equaliser right after half-time for Boro.

But the biggest talking point, that infuriated Pulis the most, was in the build-up to Nahki Wells' goal on the hour mark - Boro, down the other end, were awarded offside, the R's scored the decisive goal of the game from the following free-kick.

After the game, Pulis said: "Then we have an incident. I don’t want to harp on too much about it but I’m going to today. We have an incident in their box from a corner where Assombalonga is actually rugby tackled down and the referee’s five yards away from it and doesn’t give it."

"Not only does he (the ref) give off-side but the goalkeeper takes (the free-kick) from the edge of the box with the ball rolling when the incident has happened 25 yards away and we have four or five players past the ball when they scored the second goal."

The result at Loftus Road was Boro's fourth game without a win, and after just two wins in nine games, they are down to 6th in the Sky Bet Championship table - with Nottingham Forest able to leapfrog them should they defeat Derby County on Monday night.

The Verdict

I think Pulis needs to concentrate on his own side's performance before critcising the referee.

It was yet another terrible afternoon for Boro who seem to be in freefall at completely the wrong time of the season.

Major changes are in needed in January.
