Tony Pulis has wasted no time in endearing himself to the Hillsborough faithful, after the former Stoke City boss took aim at the club's city rivals Sheffield United in his first press conference as Owls boss.

Pulis was quickly installed as Garry Monk's replacement last week and is tasked with taking the Yorkshire club up the league standings, with the Championship outfit currently occupying the relegation places at the time of writing.

An experienced Championship and Premier League manager, Pulis will be looking to bring some much needed stability to a club that has been through the mire over the past few years, with a points deduction having greatly affected the preparations for this current season.

Speaking to the media in his first press conference, Pulis was quick to take a sly dig at the city's other side, with Yorkshire Live writer Dom Howson tweeting out the manager's quote earlier on Twitter:

Quiz: Did these 17 Sheffield Wednesday players ever actually score a league goal for the club?

The Verdict

This is a comment from Pulis that is designed to endear him to the fans and will certainly raise a few eyebrows amongst both the blue and red factions of Sheffield.

The Welshman will no doubt be looking to start off his tenure in charge with a win as the club prepares for a tricky tie away at Preston North End.

Pulis will be aiming to pick up as many points as possible between now and the January transfer window before he has a chance to tweak, change and reinforce his squad as Wednesday seek to put their relegation worries behind them over the coming months.
