Sheffield Wednesday look set to be without loanee Jack Marriott until 2021 due to injury, per the Sheffield Star.

Marriott joined the Owls from Derby County back in October after falling out of favour at the iPro Stadium under then-manager Phillip Cocu.

He had made seven appearances for Wednesday without scoring until picking up an injury during the recent international break.

And he's set to join fellow loanee Aden Flint on the sidelines, who picked up a hamstring injury against Rotherham United nearly a month ago.

New Wednesday manager Tony Pulis addressed Marriott's injury following the 1-0 loss to Preston North End earlier today, and he's not expecting to see the striker back until the beginning of next year.

"Jack’s back at Derby, I think he’s long-term. He’s going to be long-term," Pulis told the media. "Obviously Flinty is long-term as well. So we’re not going to see either of those two.
“It was his calf I think, whatever it was it’ll be six or seven weeks I think.”

The Verdict This is a blow for Wednesday, who need someone to start firing in the goals to get them away from the relegation zone. Four of Marriott's seven appearances have come from the start without scoring a goal, so he's not guaranteed to be the answer to their issues, but Pulis would rather have him involved than not be available. Luckily for Marriott, it is a calf injury and not a re-occurrence of a groin injury that he had to get surgically repaired during the summer. Persistent groin or hamstring issues can be a nightmare for a pacey striker like Marriott, who will be looking to put his calf issue behind him and come back in 2021 fit and firing.
