Celtic are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker after learning that his loan move with Middlesbrough could be cut short, according to a report by The Daily Mail.

Chelsea are thinking about recalling Baker this month as the youngster has not featured since October for Boro.

After joining Middlesbrough in the summer on a season long loan deal, Garry Monk initially gave Baker plenty of game time and he scored two goals in twelve appearances for the club.

But he has not featured for months now and Tony Pulis has also not played him with Baker's last league outing being back in September.

Pulis has addressed the imbalance in the squad and is ready to axe a number of players with Lewis Baker one who could possibly depart, as per The Northern Echo.

The England under-21 international is still highly rated as one of the country's hottest young prospects and another loan move could be on the cards this month.

Celtic are interested in the 22-year-old as they look to bolster their options in central midfield.

The Bhoys also hold an interest in Baker's team mate at Chelsea, Charly Musonda, who has also emerged as a target for Nottingham Forest.

The Verdict

Lewis Baker needs to move away from Middlesbrough to resurrect his stalling career and Boro could do with the extra wages to bolster other areas of their squad.

At the age of 22, he has to impress in the second half of the season - wherever he may end up - or risk being axed by Chelsea in the summer. Moving to Celtic would be a good chance for Baker to prove himself in a different league and win some silverware.
