Middlesbrough pair at risk of Pulis axe this summer

Britt Assombalonga and Fabio da Silva are in a vulnerable position at the Riverside Stadium, with Tony Pulis ready to listen to offers for the Middlesbrough duo.

According to the Northern Echo, Pulis is willing to listen to offers for some of his playing squad this summer, with the report claiming that Assombalonga and Fabio are amongst those most vulnerable at this stage.

It was reported last week that Pulis and Assombalonga were involved in a training ground bust-up, which could eventually lead to the exit of the striker, who only arrived on Teesside 12 months ago.

Assombalonga, 25, arrived at the Riverside Stadium in a club-record deal from Nottingham Forest last summer, before going on to finish the season as the club’s top goalscorer, finding the back of the net on 15 occasions.

Alongside the striker, Fabio could be on the move.

The Brazilian full-back has been with Boro since the summer of 2016, making 54 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Riverside already this summer, with Nottingham Forest showing an interest in the ex-Man United player.

Both were involved in Pulis’ squad that reached the play-offs in the Championship last season.

The Verdict

At this stage, Pulis will still be wanting to add some bodies to his playing squad ahead of next season, meaning some exits are inevitable.

Assombalonga might’ve finished last season as Boro’s top scorer, but he wasn’t as influential under Pulis, with the bulk of his goals coming under Garry Monk.

Fabio also struggled for game time under Pulis, with others preferred during the run-in last season.
