It’s safe to say that it’s not been the start to life with Sheffield Wednesday that Tony Pulis would have originally had in mind.
The Owls boss took charge of the club whilst they were in the relegation zone, and things certainly haven’t got much better for the former Stoke City boss.
A defeat to Huddersfield Town means that Sheffield Wednesday are sat bottom of the Championship table after their opening 17 matches of the 2020/21 season.
Pulis has had to deal without a number of players through injury, which has seen his squad light on depth heading towards the hectic festive period.
Speaking in a post-match press conference (quotes sourced from Yorkshire Live), Pulis admitted that he ‘needs the transfer window’, with his squad looking short on strength in depth at this moment in time, and labelled the transfer window as ‘massive for the club’.
“We need the transfer window. If you look at the depth, there aren’t the players there that we need to improve the first XI and the group.
“I spoke to a lot of people before I took the job so I knew what I was getting in for.
“It’s a massive club and has got tremendous tradition. It is going to be tough. The transfer window is going to be massive for this club.”
Pulis and his Sheffield Wednesday side are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Barnsley at Hillsborough, in a game they’ll fancy their chances of picking up points in.

He’s not wrong.
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t been anywhere near good enough this season, and I’ve not seen much change since Tony Pulis was appointed as the club’s new manager.
There is a lack of depth in this Sheffield Wednesday squad at the moment, and that needs addressing in the January transfer window.
If they can’t add a few players to their squad in the New Year, then I really do fear for the Owls’ chances of survival in the Championship this term.
