Middlesbrough head coach Tony Pulis has confirmed that new signing Jordan Hugill will not feature in Boro’s match against Birmingham City this Saturday.

In a statement on the Middlesbrough website, the manager announced that the 26-year-old will take a few weeks to get up to speed and get playing for the Yorkshire outlet.

Pulis stated: “Jordan's been injured, and hasn't had a full pre-season.

"It will take us a few weeks to get him properly fit and ready. I think it will be the international break before we'll see him."

Hugill, who only made three appearances for the Hammers last season, arrived on a season-long loan from West Ham United on Wednesday.

Pulis continued: “Jonny got a kick rather than a strain or a pull so we're expecting him to be fit. I think out of the two games, he's been our outstanding player.

The Verdict

With the sales of Adama Traore and Patrick Bamford, many believed that Tony Pulis’ side would be left somewhat empty up top.

But, with the loan purchase of Hugill and the likes of Braithwaite and Assombalonga finding form, Boro look like a very strong side.

Not having Hugill available for a few weeks isn’t anything to be too concerned about, and could make them even more of a threat when he returns.
