Tony Pulis insists he wasn't angered by Callum McManaman's celebration after the winger headed straight for his former manager following his dramatic last-gasp equaliser in Sunderland's 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough.

However, the Boro boss couldn't resist having a dig at the player over his lack of game time in recent years.

The 26-year old was Pulis' first signing as West Brom manager, joining the club for around £5m in 2015, although he struggled for regular football at the Hawthorns.

And, that was clearly still on McManaman's mind, as he sprinted half the length of the pitch into Pulis dugout yesterday before cupping his ear whilst looking at the ex-Stoke boss, who claimed it didn't bother him.

"No, not really. He was disappointed when he was at West Brom I never picked him. He went to Sheffield Wednesday and they didn't pick him and he is here and they don't pick him! I understand the boy is very frustrated," he told the Sunderland Echo.

The pair are believed to have argued then in the tunnel, but Pulis was quick to play that down. "No, nothing, just a bit of banter between two people. A bit of fun. Not a problem."

The Verdict

The game yesterday had almost everything and McManaman's celebration just added to what was a highly dramatic afternoon at the Stadium of Light.

Pulis handled the situation well in the press, but he must've been annoyed to see the players reaction.

For McManaman, it will have been great to get one over his former boss as he feels he didn't get a fair chance at West Brom and he clearly enjoyed it!
