Middlesbrough are considering a move for Matt Phillips, with Tony Pulis eyeing a reunion with the West Bromwich Albion winger.

According to a report in the Northern Echo, Pulis is still keen to add some bodies to his squad at the Riverside Stadium, with Phillips one man that is on the radar at this stage of the summer.

Phillips and Pulis worked together at the Hawthorns, where the 27-year-old winger is still contracted until the summer of 2020.

The ex-Blackpool and QPR flyer has been with West Brom since the summer of 2016, when he made the switch to the Hawthorns in a reported £5.5m deal.

During his two years with West Brom, Phillips has made 63 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals for the Baggies.

Last season, in 30 Premier League appearances, the 27-year-old scored two goals and registered two assists, as West Brom struggled in a relegation battle.

Darren Moore is now preparing the Baggies for a return to the Sky Bet Championship this summer, but could face a battle to keep hold of Phillips, should Pulis make a move to reunite with the winger.

So far this summer, Pulis has added Paddy McNair and Aden Flint to his Middlesbrough squad who finished fifth in the Championship last season.

The Verdict

Phillips would be an exciting addition to Pulis’ squad.

Of course, Boro’s boss knows the Scottish winger well from their time together at West Brom, and although it’s been an indifferent spell at the Hawthorns for Phillips, he still possesses a lot of quality.

If Boro can tempt the winger away this summer, it will feel like a huge coup.
