Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson is set to join Burnley, Tony Pulis has confirmed.

Burnley have agreed a £15m fee for Gibson, as per Sky Sports News, and are set to land their man.

Pulis now expects the 25-year-old to complete his permanent move to Turf Moor, where he has been offered Premier League football, Europa League football and the chance of working his way into Gareth Southgate's England side.

Gibson was named in the senior England squad during the 2016/17 season but has fallen down the pecking order after choosing to stay with his local side through relegation.

The former England under-21 international remained at The Riverside Stadium but has now sought a move after Middlesbrough failed to win promotion last season.

Gibson helped Boro to a top six finish, but they fell short in the play-off semi-finals, where they lost to Aston Villa over two legs.

He will now join Burnley, competing with James Tarkowski and Ben Mee for starting spots.

The Verdict

Gibson will be an excellent signing for Burnley.

Not only will he offer them immediate improvements at the back, he will also provide a long-term option at the back, the scope to improve even more and his price will rocket if he performs well.

£15m is an absolute steal for someone who is relatively young but is a proven Premier League performer already.
