Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has told the Lancashire Telegraph that he expects Harry Pickering to one day attract transfer interest from Premier League clubs.

The 22-year-old left back had previously established himself as the club's first choice player in that position after his move from Crewe Alexandra and is currently making his way back to full fitness after sustaining a calf injury.

Pickering has already impressed in the 13 games he has played for Rovers so far and is well on his way to becoming someone who could carve out a great career for himself at a high level.

Now Mowbray has made the following claim about the defender as he nears a return to action after being sidelined for a lengthy period:

"He's got things he needs to develop, but he's got a mindset that wants to get better and improve and he's a player that we know we can polish up and he will be somewhere down the line, he'll have Premier League clubs interested."

Pickering has seen his career go from strength to strength after passing through Crewe's famed youth academy and will now be looking to make up for lost time with Blackburn.

The left back is under contract at Ewood Park until the summer of 2025.

The Verdict

Attacking wise, Pickering is amongst some of the best full backs that the Football League has to offer but at the same time he needs to improve defensively.

Playing week in, week out for Rovers will only serve as a bench mark to get better and take his game to the next level.

He is still very young and still has his best years ahead of him, which means he will be an attractive prospect for higher league clubs.

However the target for him personally will surely be to achieve promotion with Blackburn after committing himself to the club until 2025.
