Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has said that his side "need to be better with the ball" if they are to succeed in the Championship, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

The Lancashire side drew 0-0 away at Derby County on Tuesday night, in a game where the Rams dominated possession, with Rovers managing just 35% of the ball.

The Rovers boss had admitted that his side will be punished against better quality teams this season, and has said that his side "need to be better with the ball if we want to move on".

“Someone said to me this week that I am downplaying how well we’re doing, yet if you come and watch that you’ll see our quality against theirs,” Mowbray said of the Derby draw.

“They’re further on than us, more developed and it’s almost as if they have three or four Bradley Dacks whereas we have one", Mowbray added.

“If we are to move on as a team then we have to be better with the ball - we can’t keep giving it back to good teams".

The Lancashire side sit 14th in the Championship, after two victories, one defeat, and five draws following their promotion from League One last term.

The Verdict

I think Mowbray's comments on spot on - Blackburn gave the ball away far too easily on Tuesday night, and on another day another side would have taken their chances and consequently punished Rovers.

Rovers have so many quality attacking options on the ball, Bradley Dack and Kasey Palmer instantly spring to mind, so it must be so frustrating when you leave a game managing just 35% possession.
