Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray says attacker Dilan Markanday could feature for the club again this season, if they qualify for the Championship play-offs.

Markanday joined Blackburn from Tottenham on a three-and-a-half-year deal in the January transfer window, for a fee worth around £500,000.

However, the attacker's debut for the club, as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 defeat at Hull in January, saw him suffer a serious hamstring injury that has kept him out of action ever since.

Now though, it seems that the 20-year-old could yet still have a part to play in the current campaign, if Blackburn secure a top six spot this season.

The attacker returned to training on pitches earlier this week, and on the back of that, it seems Mowbray is not ruling out the possibility of Markanday featuring in a potential play-off campaign.

Providing an update on Markanday following that step forward, the Blackburn boss told the Lancashire Telegraph"Markanday has started his grass rehabilitation, bit by bit. There’s a fair chance he will be available, four to six weeks he should be ready.

"That will be about the end of the season. Hopefully the season gets prolonged for us, let’s wait and see.

“For the boy he just has to get himself fit and when he’ll be available, he’ll be available. His summer will be more enjoyable if he’s fit and can do some extra work and be ready for pre-season.”

As things stand, Blackburn are currently sixth in the Championship table, two points clear of seventh placed Middlesbrough, but have played more games than the sides around them.

The Verdict

It would be a huge boost for Blackburn if they were to have Markanday back for a possible play-off campaign.

The attacker was a hugely exciting signing for the club, and you feel could have made a difference had he been available in recent weeks.

As a result, given the goals and assists he was getting for Tottenham at youth level prior to this move, he is a player who could make a big contribution if Rovers can claim a top six place.

However, given they have now won just two of their last 11 league games, they could be facing something of an uphill battle to secure one of those play-off spots.
