Tony Mowbray is facing an injury crisis as his side prepare to face League Two leaders Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup tonight.

Rovers beat Brentford 1-0 at the weekend and face a trip to Bristol City on Saturday, but first they have a tricky visit from Danny Cowley's Lincoln.

It will certainly be a weakened side that face the Imps, with forward Dominic Samuel the latest to find himself on the treatment table. The manager warned of the dangers of weakening his side too much this evening, despite their heroics at the weekend.

“It was an amazing effort from them (against Brentford) and I need to protect a few of them for Tuesday," Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph. "Yet we’re playing against a pretty strong Lincoln team who are on the up at the moment and will fancy their chances coming here if we weaken our team too much."

As well as Samuel, Blackburn are likely to be without Bradley Dack (knee), Adam Armstrong (ankle), Derrick Williams (foot) and Jacob Davenport (hip flexor) for tonight’s game. Elliott Bennett and Corry Evans have also been playing with knocks and could be rested.

The two sides met in pre-season when a solitary Joe Nuttall goal separated the two sides. He's likely to lead the line this evening with Rovers still trying to tie up a deal for Ben Brereton.

The Verdict

Ipswich, Brighton and Burnley all know the dangers of putting out a weakened side against Lincoln City. They all fell foul of such an approach in the 2016/17 FA Cup when the Imps made it to the quarter finals to face Arsenal at the Emirates.

Tonight will be a different prospect, Danny Cowley is focused on promotion out of League Two and as such, might be tempted to rest a few of his own.
