Tony Mowbray has hinted that Tayo Edun is set to make his debut for Blackburn at Barnsley this weekend.

Rovers paid a six-figure fee to bring Edun to Ewood Park from Lincoln City on transfer deadline day.

The full-back is yet to make his debut for Blackburn, however, having picked up a minor knee injury before making the move to Lancashire.

But as Blackburn prepare to face Barnsley at Oakwell this weekend, Tony Mowbray has suggested that Edun is set to make his debut for the club.

He told the official website: "Tayo Edun will potentially make the bench having looked powerful and strong in training today.

"I’m sure Tayo will show that to the fans as well, just how much of an impact he can have and how dynamic he can be."

It remains to be seen whether Edun starts or not, though, or even where he starts. Harry Pickering has started each of their first seven games so far and hasn't looked out of place.

Blackburn are in a good place at the moment, too, losing only one of their opening seven league games and going unbeaten in three.

Last time out, they beat Hull City by two goals to nil in midweek courtesy of goals from Daniel Ayala and Ben Brereton Diaz.

The Verdict

I think it would be harsh to drop Pickering to be honest.

Of course, Edun isn't an out-and-out left-back. He played there for Lincoln, but he can also play in midfield as a defensive midfielder.

He is athletic and powerful so his versatility makes him an interesting option for Mowbray going forward.

He is only just returning from a knee injury, though, so he shouldn't be rushed and thrown in straight away.
