Tony Dorigo has expressed his surprise at Leeds United's defensive record this season, after a string of injuries has seemingly not affected the side's ability to keep clean sheets.

Speaking to LUTV, he labelled their achievements incredible. It came in the wake of yet another shut-out, this time against lowly Bolton in the 1-0 win that sent them to the top of the Championship.

Injuries have threatened to derail their promotion push this season, with players picking up knocks and strains throughout the side.

The defence has been badly hit; Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi, Liam Cooper and Tom Pearce are all currently out with injury.

Pontus Jansson and Barry Douglas have had spells out and Stuart Dallas, a makeshift right back, is also on the treatment table.

They've still amassed ten clean sheets so far this season, four of which have come in the last five matches, and Dorigo hailed that record.

"We have so many injuries at the back but we keep keeping clean sheets. How does that work? It's just incredible."

Leeds face Aston Villa this weekend, before concluding 2018 with home ties against Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

The Verdict

Dorigo is right to praise the defence, even with the reserve players stepping up they've been solid. Aapo Halme is one player who has emerged from nowhere to fill a gap and he's been solid when called upon.

If they are going up, then it'll be in no small part due to that unbroachable defence, whatever combination of players he's forced to use.
