Losing manager Ben Garner and a host of key players in the summer was never going to be easy but Swindon Town have promotion aspirations once again this term.

They endured a slow start to the 2022/23 campaign under new head coach Scott Lindsey but have built up some momentum and now sit seventh in League Two.

Swindon will be hoping to cut the seven-point gap between them and Northampton Town in third and Lindsey will feel he's got a squad capable of doing that.

He's got some talented players at the County Ground and with the help of Transfermarkt, we've compiled a list of the five most valuable...

5. Marcel Lavinier – €300k (£258k)

Swindon fans may feel they're yet to see the best of Marcel Lavinier, who has made just five appearances for the club so far, but his place on this list shows what a bright prospect he is.

The 21-year-old right-back is a product of the Chelsea and Tottenham academies and was brought in on a permanent deal in the summer.

He played plenty of age-group football with those two Premier League clubs but with very little senior experience, it was always going to take some time for him to settle.

4. Tomi Adeloye – €325k (£280k)

Another summer arrival, 26-year-old forward Tomi Adeloye joined on a free transfer from Ayr United and has yet to find his feet at the County Ground.

He bagged 14 goals and four assists for the Scottish Championship side last term and has a fair bit of non-league experience but still has to prove himself in the EFL.

Adeloye's place at number four on this list suggests he should be able to do that.

3. Angus MacDonald €350k (£301k)

Angus MacDonald is a proven quantity in the EFL – with more than 100 Championship appearances to his name – and looked like a strong addition at League Two level when he was drafted in this summer.

The 30-year-old has spent recent years in the second tier and League One, which will be valuable experience as Lindsey looks to take this squad up the divisions.

MacDonald was handed the captain's armband straight away and was ever-present in the side before dislocating his collarbone so we can expect him back in the XI when he's fit.

2. Jonny Williams €400k (£344k)

Jonny Williams is a player with eye-catching pedigree and has proven himself a real asset since joining Swindon in August 2021.

There are few playmakers in League Two with his sort of quality and that's been reflected in the fast start he made to the season – scoring six times and providing an assist before jetting off the World Cup in Qatar with Wales.

When Williams returns, he'll be expected to resume his role as one of the Wiltshire club's key creative players.

1. Luke Jephcott €700k (£603k)

Landing Luke Jephcott on loan from Plymouth Argyle in the summer looked like a real coup for Swindon and has helped them to replace the attacking assets that left the County Ground in the same window.

The forward's quality has been clear to see already as he's provided five goals and one assist in 12 League Two games.

As a 22-year-old striker that already has his impressive windows under his belt, it's no surprise to see Jephcott top this list.
