Tomas Kalas' future still remains uncertain following his return to Chelsea after a successful loan spell at Bristol City last season.

The defender was a staple at the heart of the Robins' defence throughout the campaign as they narrowly missed out on the play-offs. This has led to a number of clubs showing an interest in him this summer, including Hull City, Rangers and Bristol City.

The 26-year-0ld made 41 appearances and formed a solid partnership with Adam Webster for Lee Johnson's side last season, which saw him included in the Czech Republic squad for matches against Bulgaria and Montenegro.

Kalas has now shared a cryptic Instagram post ahead of his summer break:

The post indicates Kalas still does not know where he will be plying his trade next season with a number of suitors interested, while the defender's update will only serve to fuel rumours that he will be leaving Chelsea.

Speculation surrounding a return to Ashton Gate would also have increased when former Bristol City teammate Korey Smith responded to the post with a double side-eye emoji, to which Kalas posted the same message in return.

The Robins are willing to make Kalas the highest paid player at the club if a deal can be reached for him, according to Bristol Live.

The Verdict

Kalas is clearly just having some fun with this post, but Bristol City fans can feel encouraged by the update which confirms the defender's Chelsea future is very much in the balance.

The defender's response to Smith's comment also shows he is keeping in touch with his former teammates, meaning he could well be open to a return to the Robins.

It would be a major coup if Bristol City could fend off interest from Rangers from Hull for Kalas, as he would inevitably form a key part of next season's promotion push.
