Charlton Athletic defender Tom Lockyer has shared an update with Jonny Williams which fans of the South London club are sure to enjoy.

It came after Wales secured their place at next year's Euros, thanks to a 2-0 win against Hungary at the Cardiff City Stadium, and although he is injured, Williams ensured he was pitchside to join in the celebrations.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Lockyer shared a photograph of himself with Williams on his story, both giving the thumbs up, along with the caption: "Charlton friends."

Two goals from Aaron Ramsey on Tuesday night was enough to see Ryan Giggs' side through automatically, qualifying alongside table-toppers Croatia, with Lockyer playing the full 90 minutes.

He has become a regular at the back in Giggs' team, forming impressive partnerships with both Chris Mepham and Joe Rodon, although the latter is currently sidelined with injury.

Can you name Charlton’s 15 most expensive signings of all time?

It puts him in a similar situation to Williams then, who has been sidelined recently with a knee problem, meaning he has missed the Red Dragons' last two qualifiers.

So far this season, both Lockyer and Williams have been integral in the Addicks making such a strong start to the life back in the Championship, with Lee Bowyer's side currently sat in 11th place as they prepare to return from the international break.

The verdict

These two have been so much better for Charlton than many will have ever imagined they could be.

Lockyer, who only signed from Bristol Rovers in the summer, was probably expected to grow gradually into his role but is now arguably their most important defender.

Williams arrived with a host of injury problems and everyone will have known how wrong it could have gone, but so far he is proving crucial.
