Charlton Athletic defender Tom Lockyer has sent a message to his Addicks' team mate Jonny Williams as the Welshman celebrated his 26th birthday.

Both players are currently on international duty with Ryan Giggs' national side and Lockyer took to Instagram to mock his friend's increasing age, with the aid of one of their coaches.

Posting a photograph of himself alongside the bald, national team coaching member, Lockyer wrote: "Happy Birthday Jonny", tagging the midfielder in the shot.

Both players have been key in Charlton's rapid start to the season, with Lee Bowyer's men sat comfortably in tenth place with 11 matches played following their promotion-winning campaign in League One.

In their last two matches they have taken four points from promotion candidates Leeds United and Fulham as they continue to upset the odds in the second tier.

Lockyer has played in all 11 matches this season after signing from Bristol Rovers during the summer transfer window, whilst Williams has notched four assists already.

After the international break they welcome Derby County to the Valley as they look to maintain their fine form.

The verdict

Spirits are high in the Charlton camp at the moment so it is no surprise to see Lockyer and Williams taking that into the national team set-up.

They seem like two excellent characters to have around so it is no surprise that the Addicks are doing so well. Having people like that in the dressing room will be an enormous help.

Can they maintain it and seriously challenge for promotion? I doubt it. But at the moment all the signs are positive.
