Tom Cairney eulogised the playing style that Slavisa Jokanovic has implemented in an interview with The Independent.

The Fulham captain has been a key part of the team since Jokanovic came in and overhauled their approach.

He, and the club, started the season slowly which could have been partly due to the hangover from the disappointing play-off semi-finals defeat to Reading; they only picked up 14 points from their first 10 games.

However, they are currently on a 14 game unbeaten run and haven't lost since a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland on the 16th of December. It's been a remarkable run of form with wins against promotion rivals Wolves, Aston Villa and Derby County in that spell.

This run is obviously bringing confidence to the players which makes them even harder to beat: “We know on our day we can beat anyone."

"I think every game at the minute we’re getting like eight or nine very good performers on the pitch out of the starting 11.”

He also believes that their style is a level above the division that they currently find themselves in: “I’ve said it from last season, I think we play Premier League football in the Championship,”

“We play on the grass, and nine times out of 10 we dominate possession and lots of shots at goal. It’s great to play in and I’m sure it’s great to watch.”

The Verdict

Cairney clearly appreciates what Jokanovic has done at the club and is enjoying his football. He was linked with Premier League clubs such as West Ham in January with multiple bids being rejected, but he clearly sees the potential of the project at Fulham and it's realistic to expect to see them in the Premier League next season.

He is a key player in the expansive, short passing possession style that the team employs. Jokanovic finally seems to have found the right players to complement him with Aleksandar Mitrovic thriving after joining on loan from Newcastle in January and 17-year-old Ryan Sessegnon having another excellent season.
