April was a vital month at both ends of the Championship table with key results in the races for automatic promotion, the top six, and survival.

The vote for the FLW Fans' Championship Player of the Month award is now open with six of the division's stand-out performers included on the shortlist.

You've got until 9am tomorrow (Tuesday 10/05) to cast your vote, with the winner announced later that morning.

To help you decide who should get the nod, we've broken down why all six of the nominees made the shortlist.

The Defenders

Nominees: Harry Toffolo, Murray Wallace

Huddersfield Town didn't lose a single game in April – winning five times and drawing once as they tightened their grip on a play-off place.

No player was more important for the Terriers at both ends of the pitch than Harry Toffolo, whose work on the left flank was remarkable.

As well as helping Huddersfield keep three clean sheets and concede just four goals, the 26-year-old scored four times himself as he continued a brilliant season.

Murray Wallace has been an absolute man mountain for Millwall this season and things were no different last month.

His versatility has been vital for Gary Rowett, confidently playing as both a centre-back and wing-back, and his performances in April summed up what a reliable defender he has been this term.

Wallace made a mammoth 24 tackles and won 21 aerial duels, as well as finding the net himself in the 1-1 draw with Preston North End.

The Midfielders

Nominees: Andi Weimann

Bouncing back from a nasty ACL injury in 2020 to score more than 20 goals in a season for the first time in his career is a phenomenal achievement – particularly given Andi Weimann spent much of 2021/22 in attacking midfield.

His dynamism in that role is so important for the Robins, who lost just once and took 11 points from six games in April.

On top of his constant energy, Weimann bagged four goals and an assist during that period.

The Forwards

Nominees: Aleksandar Mitrovic, Joel Piroe, Sam Surridge

Aleksandar Mitrovic has produced one of the greatest seasons by a striker in Championship history and he fired in a further eight goals in seven games in April.

Marco Silva's side were not at their best – taking 10 points from seven games – but the unstoppable Mitrovic ensured they remained on track to win the title.

He's more than just a goalscorer, as his 13 key passes last month show.

Only two teams won more points in April than Swansea City (13 from eight games), with things really starting to click under Russell Martin.

No team conceded more goals than the Swans last month (15) but when you've got players like Joel Piroe up top that doesn't really matter.

The Dutchman continued his fantastic debut campaign in South Wales by scoring seven times and providing two assists.

With Lewis Grabban already sidelined and Keinan Davis injured in April, the pressure was on Sam Surridge to produce for Nottingham Forest and the January arrival did just that.

Surridge finished the month with six goals and one assist as he ensured that the absence of Steve Cooper's two first-choice forwards did not derail their momentum.

His goals helped the Reds win 21 points from eight games last month as they marched towards the play-offs.
