Title winning manager in pole position for Sheffield Wednesday job

Published

on

What an eventful festive period it was for Sheffield Wednesday with them sacking Carlos Carvalhal and then beating Nottingham Forest 3-0.

Carvalhal had been on the ropes a while it seemed, and the loss against Middlesbrough last weekend proved the final straw as he lost his job on Christmas Eve.

Since then, the Owls got themselves back to winning ways with an impressive victory over Forest and now fans will be eager to see if their new manager can continue from that and get them on a run.

Who the new manager is, though, remains to be seen, but it looks as though Paulo Fonseca is the favourite at the moment with Sky Bet pricing him at very short 2/1 odds to take the reigns at Hillsborough.

Certainly, it would be an appointment to get many to sit up and take note, whilst Owls fans would also be impressed, with Fonseca currently at Shakhtar Donetsk.

A man who knows the Champions League and how to win titles, then, it would underline Wednesday’s ambition to get him in and that is what the Owls are looking for.

The fans want to see Chansiri’s vision for the top flight and this might help do that.

The Verdict

This would be an impressive move on the face of things.

Fonseca has dueled with the cream of Europe during his time at Shakhtar and fans of Wednesday would surely like to see him take on the best of the Championship before too long.
