‘Time to offload’ – Sheffield Wednesday fans react as midfielder looks set for summer exit

Sheffield Wednesday will once again be one of the favourites for promotion when the new Championship season gets underway in six weeks’ time.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men came up just short in their quest to return to the Premier League for the second successive season, with their play-off final loss to Hull in 2016 followed up by a semi-final defeat to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield last time round.

And the Owls supporters will be hoping for third time lucky next term when they embark upon the 2017/18 season in August, opening their campaign away at Preston on August 5.

McGugan has managed nine goals in 39 games for Wednesday in the last few years but clearly doesn’t have a future at the club, and news of interest in the midfielder has stimulated quite a response from Owls supporters on Twitter.

And while many recognise what a good player he is, they also recognise that it’s not going to work for him at Hillsborough…
