The 2017/18 campaign has been a bleak one for Sheffield Wednesday, who have struggled to impress in the Sky Bet Championship.

After back-to-back play-off appearances under Carlos Carvalhal in recent years, many were expecting Wednesday to launch another attack on promotion.

However, the Owls have failed to do so and have been heading for a mid-table finish for much of the second-half of the season.

Now under the management of Jos Luhukay, Wednesday’s season is drifting towards mediocrity, with focus surely turning to a huge summer.

There are sure to be plenty of changes in personnel at Hillsborough in the coming months, with Luhukay looking to put his own twist on the playing squad he inherited from Carvalhal.

Whilst arrivals are likely to take centre stage, with a new era beginning properly in the summer, it is the perfect time for Luhukay to have a clear out.

With that in mind, here is a look at THREE players we believe Wednesday need to be moving on this summer…

It is hard to deny that Nuhiu has been impressive during the second-half of the season under Luhukay, but his chance in the first-team has come because of injuries.

When everyone is fit at Hillsborough, Nuhiu is way down the pecking order.

Nuhiu isn’t going to be the striker to fire Wednesday back into the play-offs next season.

Loovens was Carvalhal’s captain, with the defender a key part of the squad that achieved back-to-back play-off appearances.

Next season, first-team football is far from guaranteed for Loovens.

Wednesday at least owe the defender the opportunity to pursue first-team football elsewhere.

Wallace was another key part of the Carvalhal era, but under Luhukay, it’s hard to see where he naturally fits into a 3-5-2 system.

The winger has his qualities, but realistically, his game time will be limited next season.
