‘Time to make a statement’, ‘Really going for it’ – Plenty of Sunderland fans react to key Lee Johnson decision against Peterborough

Sunderland face a massive test as they take on Peterborough United in League One this afternoon.

The Black Cats are firmly in the picture for automatic promotion this term but face the challenge of leapfrogging the Posh or Hull City if they’re to avoid the play-offs this term.

A victory over Peterborough would go a long way to taking matters into their own hands and that’s why Lee Johnson has picked a strong side for the Easter Monday clash.

Johnson made three changes for the trip to Peterborough.

Grant Leadbitter and Carl Winchester returned to the starting XI in place of Conor McLaughlin and Josh Scowen, while Ross Stewart also comes into the starting line-up in place of Lynden Gooch who drops to the bench.

That means that Lee Burge will start in goal with a predicted back four of Max Power, Dion Sanderson, Luke O’Nien and Callum McFadzean.

Josh Scowen and Carl Winchester will play in central midfield with Jordan Jones playing on the right flank and Aiden McGeady on the left side of the midfield, while Ross Stewart will join Charlie Wyke in attack.

There’s also a spot on the bench for Denver Hume who returns from injury.

As you’d expect Johnson’s team selection has attracted some reaction on social media. Here’s what some fans had to say.
