Nottingham Forest succumbed to a 1-0 reverse at the hands of Burton Albion at the weekend, a result which leaves the Reds just two points clear of the relegation zone in the Sky Bet Championship.

Relegation is unthinkable for the East Midlands-based club and the local derby against fierce rivals Derby County this weekend looks set to be a massive affair for both teams, given that the Rams have just sacked Steve McClaren.

Regardless of which division Forest ply their trade in next season, there is little doubt that the club needs to have a massive clearout, with several players simply not pulling their weight at the moment, whilst others are seemingly out of favour at the City Ground.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke looks at two players who have reached a crossroads in their Nottingham Forest careers and asks the question of whether the summer could be the time for them to leave for pastures new.

Jack Hobbs

The injury stricken central defender is coming to the end of his contract and given his fitness it remains to be seen whether he will be offered a new deal by the Reds.

Hobbs is a good defender at Championship level but he could see the opportunity of a fresh start as a good thing, as he looks to get back up to full speed with his injury troubles.

Forest boast decent cover at central defence and the club could probably do with a player who is more reliable on the fitness front than Hobbs.

Ben Osborn

Although Osborn has been a mainstay in the Forest team over the past couple of seasons, Newcastle United’s repeated interest could turn the head of the young Reds midfielder.

The 22-year-old looks set to have a bright future in the game and Forest’s failings of recent years could tempt him into looking to better his career elsewhere.

Forest will not want to lose another prized youngster but their hands could be tied, especially if the club is relegated to League One.
