Preston North End's performances on the pitch are pleasantly surprising their fans.

As well as holding their own for much of the FA Cup Third Round fixture against Arsenal, Preston have turned things around after a poor start to the season and now sit 11th in the Championship table.

Preston are poised to make a potential surge for the play-offs, with just six points separating them from sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday.

The Lilywhites have plenty of talented players in their squad and they might want to add a couple of new faces this January to boost their chances of finishing in the top six.

After landing Tom Barkhuizen, Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan on free transfers, Preston could look to sell a couple of fringe players to generate funds for a marquee signing in this window.

Here are 2 players who Simon Grayson should show the door to make way for another incoming.

Jermaine Beckford

Jermaine Beckford was held as one of Preston's finest attackers.

But after fighting his own teammate (Eoin Doyle) and receiving a red card against Sheffield Wednesday, the Jamaican international returned against Leeds only to be sent off for kicking Kyle Bartley in the chest with little provocation.

It is time to let the hot-headed 33-year-old go because Grayson can no longer trust him to keep his cool.

John Welsh

Perhaps it is time for Preston to finally say goodbye to long-serving midfielder John Welsh.

Welsh joined in 2012 and has played well over 100 games for North End since then.

The no-nonsense defensive midfielder has only featured six times this season though and might be set for a January exit.
