Reading continued their dismal run of form after falling to a 3-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the FA Cup last night.
It means the Royals have only recorded one win in their previous eleven games and that came in a replay against League Two Stevenage in the cup.
Therefore, it is unsurprising that the pressure is seriously building on boss Jaap Stam. The former Manchester United defender took Reading to the play-off final in his first year in charge but they have struggled this season.
Defeat against Brentford last time out in the league leaves Stam’s men in 18th position and just four points ahead of the relegation zone.
Whilst the cup was never going to be a priority for the Berkshire side, the defeat against an injury-hit Wednesday side has only increased calls for Stam to go from the fans.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the loss on twitter…

Ironically we actually played quite well last night, missed a few great chances and 2 silly defensive mistakes cost us. Thought Stam got it pretty spot on with the 3-5-2 #readingfc

I will only be going to the millwall game next week if stam has left the club #ReadingFC

Just seen the goals, absolutely laughable. Really think Stam has to go and a clearout's needed. Ilori playing everyone on for the first and Yann furthest back, idiocy from McCleary for the second and the usually class Moore poor for the third with Ilori and Jaakola #readingfc

With Stam in charge, spending money this window is not going to solve our problems, even if we had money! Our record signing is proving Stam, Gourlay and Tevreden need to be gone #readingfc

As someone who is and has been a staunch Stam in guy, I can have no complaints if he's fired. But up until/if that point comes, I will support the team & that includes Stam. Not once did booing and toxicity towards your own team help matters. #readingfc

I do think it’s time for a new voice and new ideas in the dressing room. The problem is I think the decision was made before the season started that Stam stays, no matter what. #readingfc
