Birmingham City have discovered some fine form over the past week in the Sky Bet Championship, with Steve Cotterill's side producing 6 points from their last 2 encounters against some tough sides.

The Blues haven't made any signings or seen any players depart the club in the opening 4 days of the transfer window, although there is some movement expected with them deep in relegation troubles.

Having seen things turn sour in the opening half of the season with them now firmly in contention for relegation to League 1, City will be hopeful that they can dust off the cobwebs of 2017 as they look to carry on with their form of late.

Indeed, the January transfer window will provide lost of opportunity for Birmingham to strength in key areas that have let them down thus far. As the lowest scoring team in the Championship, there are some underlying issues that need to be resolved.

Although, if Birmingham are going to strengthen their side then they'll need to see the back of some of their current players.

Therefore, here's a look at TWO players that Cotterill should look to axe over the next couple of weeks...

Stephen Gleeson

The midfielder has been surplus to requirements for Birmingham this season, other than the appearance against Wolves recently.

Having only made 5 starts for the side all season, it's clear to see he's being utilized as the last resort in a side that hosts many impressive central-midfielder's.

Indeed, the former Milton Keynes Dons midfielder is now 29-years-of-age, still with a large part of his career ahead of him. Meaning that Steve Coterrill should look to cash in on the Englishman, after showing little fight in trying to break into becoming a first-team regular.

Therefore, the boss should seek for funds over personnel in this matter.

Lukas Jutkiewicz

The tall striker has been useless for the Blues this season as one of the main reasons behind the City's demise, after providing 1 goal in the league as their supposed main striker.

Indeed, the rise in form from on-loan striker Sam Gallagher has seen the 28-year-old drop to the bench in their last two outings, which have ironically produce two wins on the bounce for the Birmingham side.

A coincidence perhaps?

Nevertheless, 1 goal as the main striker for your side is unacceptable. So Cotterill should be looking to trade the player for cash immediately, with the money going a long way to securing a natural goalscorer.
