Frank Lampard is preparing for his first transfer window as a manager as he looks to build a Derby squad that can compete for promotion.

The Rams fell at the play-off semi-final stage last season but another season in the second tier means Lampard may not have the biggest budget to work with.

However, he inherits a side that clearly has quality and will hope only a few minor tweaks are needed to improve the side.

Yet, after years of near failures, a lot of players have been at the club for a long time now and it might be the ideal time for Derby to freshen things up.

Here we look at some potential incomings and outgoings that would show Lampard means business with his new side...

The Chelsea attacking midfielder endured a tough loan spell with Celtic in January and that will mean he'll find it hard to get a loan spell with a Premier League club.

Therefore, the Championship seems a logical step and Lampard will hope to convince the player to join Derby given his connections with Chelsea.

Even if the Rams keep hold of Matej Vydra, they could do with a natural number nine and Burnley's Wells should be available.

He has proven himself in the second-tier over the years and has great movement and pace to add a lot to the team.

If Lampard wans to make some big changes he can move on some of the more experienced players and one is Nugent.

The goals dried up for him last season and at 33-years old his best years are behind him. A promotion chasing side should have better.

This may be a surprising one but with strong rumours suggesting John Terry could arrive at Pride Park it would make sense for Keogh to move on.

He has been an important player over the years but his time may be up now at the club.
