Blackburn Rovers will be aiming to stabilise in the second tier after winning promotion from League One last season.

Tony Mowbray guided Blackburn back to the Championship at the first time of asking, winning automatic promotion by finishing in second place.

But now that the season is well and truly over and celebrations have died down, it is now time to face up to the reality of preparations for next term.

Mowbray will already have his eye on a number of potential targets and it is now time to get serious and start wrapping up some deals.

Other Championship teams are already busy in the transfer market, sorting out sales and new signings and Blackburn will get left behind if they do not start finalising deals sooner rather than later.

Here are two players Blackburn should look to axe and two they should look to bring in to get the ball rolling.

Caddis has a year left to run on his contract at Ewood Park but he is not really adding anything to the squad.

With Ryan Nyambe the preferred choice at right-back, Blackburn should sell the 30-year-old if they find a suitor.

Blackburn have recently been linked with a loan swoop for Kent and this would be an excellent addition.

The 21-year-old Liverpool winger is quick, skilful and is only going to improve with regular playing time at Blackburn.

Whittingham was seen as a coup when he joined on a free last summer but he has failed to live up to expectations.

Teams will still be interested in the 33-year-old but he looks past his peak and is not quite the standard Blackburn require in the Championship.

Rovers' priority this summer must be to bring England under-21 international Armstrong back to the club, whether that is on loan again or in a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old was on loan at the club last season, scoring nine goals in 17 starts and is clearly at his best when working under Mowbray - as seen before when he scored 20 league goals for Coventry City.
