Aston Villa's financial troubles mean the club are going to have a very tough summer as they look to build a squad that could still compete for promotion next season.

Key players such as Jack Grealish, James Chester and Jonathan Kodjia appear sure to leave in the coming weeks as Villa try to raise funds.

Given the difficult position, the reality is that Steve Bruce, or whoever is in charge, will be heavily restricted in the market.

However, if a lot of players leave some money should be available and the club will appeal to players given their size.

Here we look at some deals that Villa should try and finalise to build a squad capable of going for the top six...

Villa are sure to be active in the loan market after what has happened and Liverpool's Kent could flourish in the Championship.

A loan to Bristol City didn't work out in January but he has great speed, dribbling ability and has the potential to be a key player if he is given a chance and run in the team.

The Hibs midfielder is thought to be a target and would be a great addition to the squad.

He has been a star performer in Scotland, with a great all-round game and at 23-years old has a lot of time to improve. He will cost but it could be a shrewd investment.

Even if Villa lose a few midfielders which would present Lansbury with more first-team opportunities, they would still be better moving on the former Forest man.

He hasn't delivered on the pitch, is on a big wage and may manage to attract interest. So they'd be better moving him on to help bring in players like McGinn.

Similarly, Taylor hasn't performed well enough since joining the club.

He too is on a big salary and Villa should try and move him on to help fund a new deal for Alan Hutton or give some younger lads an opportunity in the team.
