We are almost three weeks into the January transfer window and a number of Championship clubs have seen players go and arrive but with less than a fortnight until it closes, there are still signings to be made.

There has only been one transfer saga around the Madejski Stadium this month and that has been the prolonged arrival of defender Tiago Ilori.

The Portuguese defender signed on the dotted line earlier this week for an undisclosed fee.

I am sure manager Jaap Stam will still be looking at recruiting as the attacking options for the Royals still look fairly thin on the ground and the Dutchman will make sure he has the strength in his squad to challenge their rivals for promotion to the top flight.

It is now time to get realistic though with little time to get deals over the line and many clubs will be looking to sign players next week, so here are three realistic acquisitions Reading could make in the next seven days...

Darnell Furlong

Despite Reading needing to add firepower to their front line, there's nothing wrong with strengthening your options at the back and especially with some youth.

Darnell Furlong has recently been linked with a move to Berkshire; Aston Villa and Preston North End have also shown an interest, but I reckon a better destination would be the Madejski Stadium considering their position in the Championship table.

The 21-year-old right-back has spent the last six months on loan at Swindon Town from Queens Park Rangers but received the call to return to Loftus Road by Ian Holloway earlier this month.

Furlong has appeared just once for the London club since his arrival back from League One.

Although he's highly rated at QPR, game time is something he may struggle with and a move away is very realistic if he starts to become frustrated at the lack of minutes on the pitch.

Rogelio Funes Mori

The 25-year-old could leave Mexico to join Jaap Stam's promotion challenging squad.

Rogelio Funes Mori, the brother of Everton defender Ramiro, plies his trade for Monterrey and has done since the summer of 2015.

He's made 15 appearances for his employer this season with ten goals to his name and is one of the hottest properties in Central America.

Funes Mori began his career at Argentinian giants River Plate before making the move to Portugal to join Benfica.

Zach Clough

Zach Clough is very likely to make the step up to the Championship from League One this month as the attacking midfielder looks for progress in his career.

The Bolton star man is one of the best talents in the third tier and has almost single-handedly led them to a promotion contention.

The 21-year-old is highly-rated since making his debut for the Trotters 24 months ago and every manager Bolton Wanderers have had since has described Clough's ability as a promising prospect for the future.

All in all, the Manchester-born player has contributed to nine goals this season for his side and that is what has grabbed the eye of many potential suitors.

Reading may need a striker, but Zach Clough is able to play up front or drop further back as an attacking midfielder which would be very beneficial for the Royals.

Only a few million pounds would be able to prize him to the Madejski Stadium and a deal may be wrapped up as of next week.
