Sheffield Wednesday are enduring one of their worst patches of the Championship season and unfortunately for Carlos Carvalhal and his players, it's coming at arguably the worst time of the season.

For months, the Owls looked like they would push the likes of Leeds, Huddersfield and Reading to the death in the race for the play-offs but in recent games, their form has slipped dramatically.

They could only draw 1-1 against relegation threatened Burton Albion whilst defeats to Leeds, Aston Villa and Reading mean that Carvalhal's side have only picked up a paltry one point from the last twelve available.

It's not promotion-chasing form in the slightest and with Fulham now just one point behind them in the table, they've got to start winning or it will be yet another fruitless campaign in one of the toughest divisions in the world.

So with things not going so well on the pitch of late, there's certainly a couple of issues that need fixing sooner rather than later at Hillsborough.

So with that in mind, here's 2 rumbling issues Carvalhal needs to fix as soon as possible at Sheffield Wednesday...

He needs to start getting the best out of some quality players

On paper, Wednesday have one of the strongest teams in the division, with the whole side littered with former Premier League pros and individuals with some great experience in some of Europe's toughest leagues.

But the likes of Forestieri, Pudil, Rhodes and Fletcher have all lost form when it mattered most and at this stage in the season, you need your biggest stars to step up and be counted, not take an early holiday.

They've all been good at one point or another this campaign but over the next few weeks, Carvalhal needs to get them ticking again or their top-six ambitions will derail.

They need to find a seriously cutting edge

Leeds United, Huddersfield and Reading are all in the top-six for a reason and if you as their supporters, the majority of them will probably admit their football hasn't been the prettiest to watch at times this campaign.

But in Monk, Wagner and Stam, these managers have managed to find ways to grind out gritty wins when the team haven't been playing so well, something that has allowed them to stay with the running back for the majority of the campaign.

At times, you sense that ruthlessness hasn't been quite instilled throughout this Wednesday squad, who really need to find horrible ways of beating the likes of Burton, even when they have a bad day at the office.

As the old saying goes, the best teams always pick up wins, even when they've played badly.
