Aston Villa have endured a tough start to the season and with manager Steve Bruce being dismissed only last week, there will be a number of players hoping to impress the new boss.

Without a win in their last four league games, Villa head into the international break in disappointing form and when a new manager is appointed, they will hope to turn around this poor run of form.

Villa host Swansea City in what will prove to be a tough opening fixture for the new boss in charge at Villa Park, and he could be tempted to rotate the squad with under-performing players a real concern.

Aston Villa fans will be hoping that the new boss can clear-out some of the so called "deadwood" in the current playing squad, that haven't featured recently.

But which players are likely to be heading for the exit door at Villa Park this season?

Find out who they are here....

The former Nottingham Forest midfielder hasn't featured at all this season, despite being named as a substitute a couple of occasions this season. Lansbury only made six starts during the 2017/2018 season, which is a huge difference compared to when he started 35 games during the 2016/2017 season. With Lansbury being behind Mile Jedinak, Birkir Bjarnason and new signing John McGinn, it is extremely unlikely that he will ever force his way through to the starting XI.

Many Aston Villa fans would have completely forgotten that Richards was still contracted to Aston Villa. That's an easy mistake to make as Richards was last seen in a Villa shirt in October 2016 in a 1-1 draw with Wolves. He was then ruled out until January 2017 with a knee injury but hasn't made an appearance since. An astonishing run which dates over nearly two seasons, Richards hasn't been allocated a squad number this season and will surely leave the club this summer.
