Now Ola John and Lucas Piazon have returned to Benfica and Chelsea respectively, Reading are left with very few wide options out wide.

Garath McCleary is the obvious choice out on the right wing, but apart from him there are few alternatives. Latvian striker Deniss Rakels is capable of playing on the wing, and youngsters Jack Stacey and Tariqe Fosu could feature next season after impressive loan spells at lower levels.

Paolo Hurtado is set to return from his loan spell in Portugal, but the Peruvian winger is still yet to learn English, and it is well known that the club are looking to move him on, with a return to his homeland likely.

These however are the only options that Jaap Stam has, so bringing in a new winger will be high on his list of priorities.

Here are 3 wingers Reading should look to sign this summer.

Callum McManaman

West Brom's talented winger shone in Wigan's FA Cup triumph a few seasons back, and many expected him to push on and become a key player for Tony Pulis' side, but that's not exactly been the case.

McManaman found himself behind the likes of James McClean, Chris Brunt and even teenager Jonathan Leko at the back end of the season. A move to Reading would suit both parties, and give the winger regular game time.

Ben Marshall

The 25-year old has scored 10 times in 104 matches for Blackburn in the Championship, but with Rovers heading into a season of struggle and fear of relegation, Marshall could well look to move on.

What he lacks in pace Marshall makes up for in technical ability, and he is extremely potent from dead ball situations, which is something Reading lacked last season. If they could land the Englishman then they would have acquired an excellent player.

Kemar Roofe

Roofe had the best season of his career last campaign, where he helped Oxford United to League 2 promotion, scoring 18 league goals and picking up the League 2 Player of the Season award on the way.

Interest in the 23-year old is high, with the majority of Championship clubs interested in signing the winger. Roofe has pace, shooting prowess and also versatility, with the ability to play on both wings but also up top too.
