For the last 3 seasons Derby County have come desperately close to winning promotion from the Championship but have fallen at the final hurdle. Chris Martin is a clear goalscoring threat up top, but the Rams didn't make enough use of his aerial prowess last season, and most of that blame lies on the wingers for not getting enough quality into the box.

Tom Ince was the star of the show in many ways out wide, but almost always opted to cut inside and try to get a shot away instead of firing in crosses for the striker to get onto the end of, and Johnny Russell lacked a quality final product when it came to the cross.

Nick Blackman flopped when coming in for £3 million from Reading in January too, which forced the Rams to take up a narrow, predictable playing style. Here are 3 wingers Derby should look to sign this summer.

Garath McCleary

The Jamaican winger had arguably his worst season since joining Championship outfit Reading from Nottingham Forest last campaign, but is still highly rated by all around the Madejski Stadium.

Much more consistent than Nick Blackman, McCleary is capable of delivering a killer cross, and constantly terrorises opposition full backs with his blistering pace.

Would be a wonderful outlet for Nigel Pearson on the counter, something his Leicester City side did to devastating effect.

Robert Mak

The Slovakian had a solid tournament at Euro 2016, where he supported Marek Hamsik with some excellent performances as Slovakia made it out of Group B.

Currently plying his trade with Greek side PAOK, Mak could soon be on the move, and the lure of a promotion challenge with Derby could be enough to persuade him to join the Rams. The 24 year old has an outstanding work ethic, and is armed with pace too, which could make him a perfect fit for Championship football.

Maximilian Beister

The talented winger spent last season on loan at second tier side 1860 Munich, where he impressed with some brilliant displays, and upon returning to Mainz, has been subject to interest from several clubs.

Beister would provide an alternative to Tom Ince, with his pace and excellent crossing ability allowing Derby to play a different system altogether. On top of this all, he provides versatility which would be much appreciated in a Derby side that has little squad depth.
