It was a frustrating night on Monday for Blackpool, as they played out a 0-0 draw with local rivals away at local rivals Bolton Wanderers.

With Bolton still searching for their first win of the season, and Blackpool making their way as early top six contenders, the Seasiders may have been expecting more than the point they eventually took with them from the University of Bolton Stadium.

As a result, it seems there will be plenty for Blackpool manager Simon Grayson to think about heading into their clash with Rotherham at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

Here, we take a look at what he, and everyone else, will have learned from his side's performance from their draw with Bolton.

They need to show more intent

Given the opportunity that Blackpool may feel they had going into the match, the amount of intent they showed does seem a little concerning.

For much of the match, it seemed as though the Seasiders were happy to simply soak up the pressure applied by Bolton, with Simon Grayson's side enjoying very few long periods inside the Bolton half.

Considering this may have been a game they will have targeted for three points, you feel Blackpool will have to do more than this in future matches they may single out as an opportunity to pick up a win, if they are to maintain their position within the top six throughout the course of the campaign.

They may need to be more clinical

Given the lack of pressure they put on Bolton, it does seem as though Blackpool will have to take what opportunities do come their way with more ruthlessness than they did on Monday.

In the first half alone, Liam Feeney rattled the Bolton crossbar, while Matty Virtue was twice denied by last-ditch challenges by Bolton defender Jack Hobbs when free in the Wanderers area as they looked to make the breakthrough.

It seems therefore, that the Seasiders did still have chances to get themselves out of sight in this one, and that is not sort of thing they will want to start passing up on a regular basis.

They are solid in defence

While there may be some concerns about their attack, the same can not be said about Blackpool's defence.

For all the pressure Bolton may have applied themselves, it never really seemed as though they were close to going behind, with the centre back pairing of Ben Heneghan and Curtis Tilt both making important interceptions to deny their hosts chances at goal.

It seems therefore, that at the back at least, Blackpool do have the foundations from which they can build on this season, and that at least should give them a chance of challenging at the top this season.
