It's now four straight wins for Blackburn Rovers, following their 1-0 victory over Derby County at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.

In a game where Tony Mowbray's side enjoyed the vast majority of the chances, it was Adam Armstrong who would eventually seal the points for the hosts, with his stunning 20-yard effort just before the hour mark eventually enough to secure all three points for Rovers.

That run means that Blackburn have now climbed to tenth in the Championship standings, and within two points of the play-off places ahead of their trip to Wales to face Swansea on Wednesday night.

It seems therefore, as though there is plenty for those associated with the Lancashire club to be encouraged by right now, and here, we've taken a look at three things we learned about Blackburn from that win over Derby.

Adam Armstrong must be brimming with confidence right now

While it may have seemingly taken him some time to settle into the Championship following his permanent return to Ewood Park from Newcastle in the summer of 2018, Adam Armstrong now seems to be well settled in.

With Mowbray continuing to make him one of the most regular features on the teamsheet at Ewood Park, Armstrong repaid that faith once again on Saturday, with his spectacular effort against the Rams his second from outside the box this season - after one he hit in the 2-1 win at Reading in September.

Indeed, that's now four league goals already this season for Armstrong, just one short of his league tally for the entirety of the previous campaign, it certainly looks as though he is getting to grips more and more with this level, which will be encouraging for both the player and club as they look to get to a stage where they can mount a push for promotion to the top flight.

Christian Walton shows his worth

It has been something of a difficult season at times for Christian Walton since his loan move to Blackburn from Brighton during the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has at times found himself under scrutiny during the campaign for some high profile and costly errors, and while Rovers were largely able to keep Derby quiet enough for Walton not to come under pressure from the crosses that have caused him trouble this season, he did still have a part to play in Saturday's win, making an impressive late save to deny the Rams a stoppage-time equaliser through Jack Marriott.

As well as providing Walton with another welcome confidence boost, that moment ought to also serve as a reminder that the Brighton loanee can still have a big part to play for Rovers this season, with his shot-stopping something that has, and indeed can, help win Blackburn the points they need to climb up the table.

Mowbray is facing an unlikely selection dilemma

Once again on Saturday, it was Stewart Downing who started at left-back for Blackburn, and once again, Rovers went onto take all three points.

That means it is now three straight games that the veteran has played the full 90 minutes in that position, with Rovers winning all three, and conceding just a single goal in the process, with Downing looking more than comfortable in that role throughout that run.

You have to wonder therefore, whether that move into a much deeper role for Downing, which had originally been brought about due to injuries to the likes of Derrick Williams and Greg Cunningham - as well as an apparent fall down the pecking order for Amari'i Bell - is something that Mowbray could be tempted to make on a more permanent basis, which could be a worrying thought for Williams in particular, as he nears his return to full fitness.
