Blackburn Rovers made it three home wins from three home games on Wednesday night, with a 1-0 win over play-off chasing Brentford at Ewood Park.

It would take just 11 minutes for Tony Mowbray's to score the only goal of the game, with Bradley Dack converting from ten yards out after a flowing team move that had started in Rovers' right-back position.

The hosts could arguably have won by more, with Danny Graham, Adam Armstrong and Joe Rothwell all missing decent chances to extend their side's lead throughout the course of the 90 minutes.

Even so, the result means that Rovers have now climbed to 13th in the Championship standings following back to back wins over Barnsley and Brentford, and are now six points off the top six, giving the club's fans plenty to be encouraged about going forward.

Here, we take a look at three things we learned about Blackburn from that win over the Bees.

They are learning to see games out

There is an argument that, on plenty of other occasions since the start of last season, Blackburn would have drawn or even lost this game.

While Rovers enjoyed the vast majority of the chances on Wednesday night, Brentford were able to put them under pressure in the second half in particular, as Thomas Frank's side went in search of an equaliser.

That pressure is something Blackburn may well have wilted under in previous months, but this time, their back four held firm, denying the Bees those opportunities to get themselves back in the game.

Just as they did against Barnsley on Saturday, Blackburn found a way to win against Brentford on Wednesday, and in more impressive style it must be said, something which that has to be a source of encouragement going forward.

Adam Armstrong is much more of an asset on the wing

Although he may not like it from a personal point of view, Adam Armstrong showed on Wednesday night why he is much better suited to a role as a winger than a centre forward.

Having started through the middle against Barnsley on Saturday, Armstrong had - with the exception of a smart tap pass to set up Dack for Rovers' opener - been kept relatively quiet after being flagged offside several times in the first 20 minutes however.

Against Brentford however, Armstrong's pace was a problem for the Bees' backline all evening, with his constant runs down the flank keeping the visitors busy tracking back, reducing their own opportunities to get forward, and leaving their defence with plenty to deal with.

Armstrong's standing ovation as he was substituted in the final ten minutes was well-deserved, and it would be little surprise to see him revert to that wide position on a more regular basis from now on.

Amari'i Bell's future at the club looks bleak

One Blackburn man who may not have enjoyed the events of Wednesday night quite so much from an individual perspective, is Amari'i Bell.

Having looked unconvincing when restored to the starting lineup against Barnsley on Saturday, Bell found himself dropped back to the bench for the visit of Brentford, with Stewart Downing taking up the left-back spot on Wednesday night.

The fact that Bell, a natural left-back, was unable to nail down his spot ahead of veteran midfielder Downing, highlights just how far the former-Fleetwood man appears to be down the Rovers pecking order, and with the performance of his replacement showing little signs of concern, it seems it could be difficult for Bell to force his way back into the XI.

With his contract at Ewood Park set to expire at the end of this season, it looks as though Bell's chances of earning a new deal with the club, are already running out.
