Bristol City are still on the hunt for a striker following Benik Afobe's injury, and assistant coach Jamie McAllister has hinted that the Robins are looking at bringing in a free transfer to fill that void.

Afobe suffered a freak injury in training a couple of weeks ago, when he attempted to bring a ball down in a training game and with nobody else around him, ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament, ruling the striker out for the season after a summer transfer window loan move from fellow Championship side Stoke City.

Here, we take a look at three strikers who can come in to fill the void left by Afobe and offer another option up front...

Ross McCormack

The first striker on this list is McCormack, who was released by the newly-promoted Aston Villa in the summer.

The former Leeds United and Fulham striker knows where the net is in England's second tier, having scored 120 Championship goals since making his debut in the second tier for Cardiff City in the 2008-2009 season.

Despite his best years seemingly behind him and McCormack reportedly missing training often at Aston Villa, the striker would be a gamble for Lee Johnson but is definitely out of the question.

Wilfried Bony

The 30 year-old striker is without a club since leaving Swansea City in the summer, and will likely have high wage demands if Bristol City were to make him an offer, but Bony brings top-flight experience with him after featuring for Swansea, Stoke and Manchester City in the Premier League.

Bony is a powerful striker who is capable of scoring goals from anywhere and with Bristol City playing a similar brand of football to that of Swansea when Bony was there for his first spell five or so years ago, Bony would likely flourish at the forefront of Lee Johnson's attack with the attacking talents of Kasey Palmer and Callum O'Dowda behind him.

Gary Hooper

The experienced Championship striker is a strong presence up front and can play as a target man, who can also net the goals that Afobe was getting on a regular basis before his injury.

Hooper left Sheffield Wednesday in the summer and has scored 61 Championship goals across his career, and being an experienced player as well as a leader on the pitch, Lee Johnson wouldn't be able to go far long if he gave the former Celtic striker a call and persuaded him to join the revolution at Ashton Gate.
