It has been a difficult past few weeks for Bradley Johnson at Blackburn Rovers.

Having made an impressive start to life at Ewood Park following his summer move from Championship rivals Derby County, the midfielder has struggled to make an impact recently, starting just two of Rovers' last seven games.

Indeed, Johnson himself has admitted recently that his recent performances have not been up to his highest standard, meaning the pressure is now building on him to step back up to that mark in the coming weeks.

For that to happen, Mowbray is going to have to back him by giving him the chance to build momentum again with a run of games in the first-team, and here, we've taken a look at three reasons why he should be doing just that.

He is more than capable at this level

While his form in the past few weeks may not have been what he was hoping for, there can be no denying that he has shown in the past he is more than capable of competing at this level.

The midfielder has previously won promotion to the Premier League with Norwich, and only last season was part of a Derby side that made it all the way to the play-off final, highlighting that he can compete at the very top of this division, as Blackburn themselves expected to do this season.

Indeed, Rovers themselves have already seen what he can do, with Johnson arguably one of their most impressive performers in the early part of the season with some dominant displays in the centre of midfield, which, if he was given the opportunity to produce again, you feel Blackburn would certainly benefit from.

They need an upturn in form

It is worth noting that, in this recent run of games where Johnson's influence and presence in the side has been reduced, things haven't exactly gone as Rovers would have wanted them to anyway.

Indeed, in the last eight games heading into the November international break - a period in which Johnson has appeared just three times - Rovers have picked up just one solitary win, a run which has seen them slip to 18th in the table, piling the pressure on Mowbray.

You have to feel therefore, that the decision to recall Johnson to the side has to be a tempting one, in order to see if that could prove to be the change that ultimately sparks an upturn in fortunes for Rovers, and ease that scrutiny on their manager.

It could provide some welcome stability in the centre of midfield

While Johnson's performances may not have been the most convincing recently, the partnership he established with 21-year-old Lewis Travis in the centre of the field at the start of the season was a consistently solid one.

Since Johnson has lost his starting spot however, it appears as though that has become more of a problem position for Rovers, with the likes of Lewis Holtby, Corry Evans, Stewart Downing and Elliott Bennett - the latter two of which are most certainly not what you would call naturals in that position - all stepping in in that area of the park.

With none of those apparently proving particularly effective, it does seem as though bringing Johnson back into the fold to potentially rebuild that partnership with Travis could be a smart move, both in terms of giving them more stability in that position, and allowing those other players to return to their more familiar positions where they can be more influential for Rovers.
